Please provide more details. There is no reason wifi should need to be on. What's happening?

Now they won't play at all, with no errors. Did the ringtone iOS update thingy and still the same. Factory reset time?

What makes you think it's related to wifi?

It gave an error that wi-fi is required to view the video. Now, I have a Mpavcontroller error3. Tried signing out of iTunes, reboot, and signing in again but no luck.

Wi-fi now required to play saved movies on our phones?

That's because the movie was not downloaded from iTunes.

I get this error if wifi is off and the movie is not stored in my phone

Let me test a movie not purchased from iTunes. Will report back... As you can see. My movie is still on the cloud, that's why I am saying it's not on my phone..

I have synced it via iTunes as well and shows up as a home video but unlike you, it won't let me play it.

Though, it will not let you sync if it wasn't correct. I'm a bit lost here as I don't see a reason if the file is stored locally on your iPhone.

Hmmm. Will try to mess with Handbrake or MetaX. Running out of possible solutions.

Yes, stored locally since I transferred them via syncing with iTunes.

Play full 1080p hd

Bug or another measure to eliminate piracy? Please advise. Thanks.

Well if anyone doesn't know yet. The iPhone 5/5s iPad mini and iPhone 6 plus by default receive the 720p file from Apple from iTunes movie purchases.. To get the FULL 1080P HD file into your APPLE device... I figured it out 6 months ago.. in iTunes changes preferences from 720p download to 1080p download... Apple now sends you 1080P file to your laptop... Now sync that file with your iPhone/iPad... Twice the resolution on your iPhone/iPad...... I have been telling Apple for 6 months.. The iPhone 5 has a 1080P camera.. So it can play a 1080P file.... The screen resolution WILL BLOW YOUE MINDS!!! SHARE IT WITH EVERYONE!!!

Demand apple change default download of movies from 720P to 1080P HD over Wi-Fi.. The Movie Total Recall Is 3.7 GB on Wi-Fi... Yet it is 4.5 GB with a sync with my 1080P file in my laptop... Avatar is 5.5 GB on Wi-Fi... Yet sync in FULL 1080P..... 6.5 GB..... Even my IPad mini will play 1080P file... And the screen looks likes a retina display!!! But it's not!!! I think Apple has know from Sep 2012 the iPhone 5 could play 1080P file....
