i went for cellular as my iPad goes to work with me every day. I've not used the instant hotspot before though and do have an iPhone 6 with 4G on me whenever I'm out of the house with my iPad. Maybe I should try that for a few days and see if that's a better solution for the next iPad? Has anyone actually relied on it that can comment? It would be cheaper to get a bigger data tariff on the phone than to pay for two O2 sims.

I voted cellular because I like to pretend I'm rich.... But I'll probably buy a wi-fi:confused:

I guess I missed something..... What is the new 'Apple sim" ?
Here is the MacRumors article that talks about it.

By way of background, you need a SIM (subscriber identity module) card from the cellular carrier whose services you'll be using in order to use those services. If you were to move from AT&T to T-Mobile, you would need to remove the AT&T SIM card from the iPad and put in a SIM card provided and programmed by T-Mobile. It's not very consumer-friendly.

What Apple has done is to create their own SIM card, that can work across multiple services. If you change from AT&T to T-Mobile now, you don't need to touch the SIM card. Instead, screenshots indicate that you go through your settings and change your carrier. There's no need to purchase a new SIM card from T-Mobile, nor to wait for them to mail one to you or get it from their store. It makes it easier to change carriers.

Supposedly this isn't designed to replace SIM cards entirely, but just to make things easier for people who use short-term data plans. We'll see if Apple eventually pushes it out to their iPhones to phase out traditional SIM cards as we know them.

Cellular for me I have a wifi only for the past few years and regretted it as, the GPS chip is with the cellular chip.

So learnt my lesson and will get a cheap deal and buy the iPad outright!

Well, I was debating a cellular iPad Air or a wifi only Air, and with my discovery of Personal Hotspot, I don't think it'll be necessary.

My iPad has always been a 'stay-on-the-bed-for-8-hours-till-I-get-back-home' device.

It doesn't get out much, and I don't know how trustworthy this hotspot crap is, but I'll try it.

I always buy Cellular, even if I only use it a few times a year.

If I need to access Mail, or Google something I do not have to fiddle with my phone, I don't have to ask for WiFi passwords or similar.

I've always been so glad I bought it, when I needed it, even if it's hardly the case.

Cellular, because I have a lousy sense of direction of direction and make frequent use of the gps.

Wi-fi only.
iPhone is wrapped in a battery charging case- drain is never an issue and tethering works like charm.

Debating on this one.

My Ipad 3 was cell. and I never used it.

I have a Bad Elf GPS with the mini I currently have, so having the assisted GPS might be kind of redundant.

Need to look at AT&T pricing as far as using cell service with the ipad as well.

i am rarely in need of cellular (few days in a year ?)
those few days, if indoor, i will tether with my iphone 4s

otherwise im always on wifi

;)
