I thought for sure I had gotten hacked when it said my password or ID were incorrect and I knew it was.

I worked in IT for many years and we had web apps. When we ran into server or app issues the first thing we did was put up a notice. Apple needs to change their messages. If their servers are down or just can't be reached the message SHOULD NOT READ that you ID or password is incorrect. It should say something about the servers being busy, try again later.

I know this goes against "everything Apple" but if they want to play in the cloud they need to change their "no statement at any cost" attitude. We all know these things happen. It would be nice to know it's not just our specific account without having to go to a forum to find out.

And now everyone who is logging into iTunes or who is using an Apple ID is actually going through a server being operated by a Nigerian prince.

The LOGIN works again, but now I cannot buy any application in the AppStore  with my iOS3.1.x,...

What did they? The buying button doesn't work anymore!

Fixed it

So at about 10 am (uk time) the server was fixed, everything is working fine again. APP store and iCloud all up and running again. I suggest those who tried to change there password continue to go ahead and change there password, just to prevent any further problems signing in. Those who removed there card details in blind panic of being compromised are fine to re-add them and verify details. everything should be fine from here. just holla if anyone needs help or tips on using ID or iCloud after this situation.
Double check www.appleid.apple.com to make sure your accounts are still verified with the server.

Scary when this happens

Had this happen unexpectedly a few weeks ago. It's scary when this happens out of the blue. My first reaction was to think that my account had been hijacked. Being on the road at the time, there didn't seem like there was anything I could do about it (except worry).

Very well worded. Thx

I can't stand iCloud, webmail is so much slower than MobileMe, it sometimes takes over 10 min just to display a list of my emails.

I feel that Apple's web team needs a boot. The .mac, mobileme, and now icloud, have all been utter crap. I've started with Apple's .mac when it first came out, and it was a continuous disappointment ever since.

C'mon Apple do it right for a change!

I sure am glad I haven't upgraded to Lion and iOS 5 yet. Apple may have it all together in a few months or so.

This has nothing to do with either, iOS 5 and especially Lion are fab!

It gets worse. I just got in.... ALL my iCloud information is erased. Gone. Everything. My calendars, contacts, ten years' worth of email. Even my photo.

Har har har :p Can I quote you and print that out in B-I-G B-O-L-D L-E-T-T-E-R-S and hang it up my wall together with the words: "Thou shall not entrust your data to some Foo Company! Thou shall not entrust your important data..."

It's like in the good ol' days: "Did you save your document yet? You know, power failure and such..." - "Oh yes, sure, it's in the Cloud(tm)(R)!" - "No, I mean, did you save it!"

Good luck in recovering your data, hope Apple has a good backup plan ;)

news on the net that the group 'anonymous' are behind this

Well, that would actually be GOOD news. Because that would mean that at least someone has things under control ;)

Same for me too, mine happen Monday afternoon. I could not log in to my iTunes account and was out at the time, said my password was wrong, I changed it then it worked.

Wow! Things happen... Just go do something else besides being enslaved... It'll come back up!

This article, is EXACTLY, one of the MANY reasons why I am not a fan of cloud-based services or other services that promise to hold/contain/distribute my music/movies/software etc. on demand.

Whether it was malicious by Apple or a mistake by Apple or someone kicked out a power plug or whether Apple was hacked or there was a bug in the software...ETC!! There will ALWAYS be a risk and ALWAYS be an excuse.

I still love my cds, dvds, and blurarys for $8-$15 a pop thank you very much. Always here...always seconds away for me to retrieve...never a "reason" why I cannot "access" it.

Down today 12/20/2011 at 5:30 PST

This problem is happening right now for me. It's been going on for an hour+ now. Can't login. Password incorrect. And I can't reset it because going to https://iforgot.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/DSiForgot.woa/wa/iforgot results in a "The requested application was not found on this server."

This is really ****** Apple. At this point I think Google is way way more stable for email. And calendaring. I'm crippled right now.

ICloud Outages

In the past two weeks; I noticed that I've experienced outages with ICloud not reporting updated signal. Reports location from 6 hours prior. I've read that ICloud can be delayed as far as 24 hours. Any insight?
