Using a Note4, and the widget on a home screen that rotates photos from my gallery.

    1. Does this kill my battery life even if I'm not on that home screen viewing it? Does it still do this in the background?

    2. What about other widgets, like Google Now. Any idea how much battery life it uses? Is there a way to check?

    Thanks.

I have several widgets including a countdown clock and see little to no impact on battery life.

Yes they will drain power over not having them, but importantly ... Most widgets don't drain a lot, only a small percentage of the overall battery. HOWEVER some badly coded third party widgets (and live wallpapers) CAN indeed cause memory holes and excessive power drain. YOU most definitely would notice this happening. The fact that you haven't, shows you aren't experiencing anything abnormal.

I'm using Experia live wallpaper and it works great without any noticeable battery draw. I suppose it really depends on the amount of time you're spending looking at it though.

Widgets only drain when the screen is on. As others have said the drain is minimal

I did say 'some' ;) hence not all :) I've tried some from the play store and they did badly affect my battery life whilst others negligible.

Bluetooth with my moto360 is killing my battery but I have a twitter widget that updates so often that seems to have little to no impact.

    2. i have 20 (+3) widgets on five homescreens... onemoreclock widgets is badly coded, only 1 widget consumes 4% of used battery. zooperPro has consumed 4% of used battery, but i do have 8 of zooper widgets, and one is a full screen widget. however, i was playing with it yesterday, so it has caused the "high" consumption. other widgets are not shown on the battery stat - they use so little...

Widgets are never a top battery user on my phone. It's mostly screen and Waze and other apps I use often.
