Widgets broken

Just setting up my new MBP and have an odd problem with the widgets in that none of them 'work'. I can drag them onto the dashboard OK but they dont actually function and if I try to close them dashboard crashes and I get dumped back to my desktop .. screenshot attached.

Any ideas?

If these were 3rd party widgets I'd advise to uninstall then reinstall. Try these steps first:

1. Make a guest account or log into another user's account and try dashboard.

2. If step #2 worked, seek out the dashboard.plist file in your /users/yourusername/library/preferences folder and trash it. Load your widgets again and see if that works.
