Found this today.
Basically it describes how Widgets can go really bad and I must say after visiting the mentioned link in the story and reading the actual article, I must say it is pretty scary.
It really lowers the bar for malicious code to break into one's computer. And since Widgets are SUPPOSED to be programmed by another person, most likely NOT a trusted company, I must say it is kinda disturbing.
I guess this won't be that much of deal for users who know what they are doing but for the rest this can pose a serious issue.
And don't come with the regular argument that there is not such Widget yet. I know there isn't but there will be, I'm sure.

You guys just need to lighten up. If you run around naked on the web, you're gonna get hurt. AntiVirus software will not cover you. AV is okay, I suppose, but it helps after the fact --- after tons of people have been hurt while paying for AV support. Instead, you must use your brains. For example, if you call 911 when someone is breaking in, you are going to be a victim. Instead, you use reasonable lighting and good locks and a gun and you stay out of gang neighborhoods. Also you would never go into the wilderness alone and unarmed, The wilderness has bears, mountain lions and criminals on the run---the later I call varmits, and they are the most dangerous. The same goes for Widgets. Go to a unknown site or a porno site or a site with ads for porno sites (hear me foxnews!) and download a widget and may get hurt. Or you may not. So be careful. But don't rely on Peter Norton to protect you. It ain't gonna happen. Peter wants you money, but he cannot protect you anymore than the 911 cops. Instead, use your brains. Get Widgets from 1) Apple 2) Macintosh Users Groups 3) Known developers such as Stone, OmniGroup, anyone listed at stepwise.com, etc. 4) big developers such as Adobe and (oh, it hurts to say this, Microsoft) 5) yourself 6) your friends. Stay away from www.billybob.whatever. Billy Bob may hurt you. So why risk it? I don't use AV software on my Mac or on my PC and have not been infect with a virus since 1987~1988 (Scores on the Mac was the last). Don't open email attachments. If people want to send you something, ask them to upload it and send a link. I am not a nurd, but a journalist, but I stay virus-clean without AV software. I am nothing special, but can still protect myself. So you can avoid viruses, too. Just use your brains and don't trust strangers.

I don't know if anyone posted this anywhere, but I hope Apple's position on Widgets outlined in this KB article is a transient one.

You cannot remove widgets from the Widget Bar or change their order.

Ummm...granted that you *can* if you know what you're doing. And there's Widget Manager if you don't, but....

You cannot change their order, because the order is alphabetical. More accurately, if you want to change their order, rename them. I just changed the name of "Mine Sweeper" to "1Mine Sweeper," and it is now listed first.

Edit: Or add a space before the name. Same result. Just tried it.

Useful! I meant more the remove widgets part than the order them. I will edit and clarify. :D

This is the bad publicity that I was talking about.

"Critics suggest a simple solution: use Apple or Linux to be safe and sound.

But Linux (and Unix) systems have been hacked before, and Apple's brand-new Tiger operating system has already been fingered for a security flaw."

people get a message - and it's not good.
