Widgets stuck on desktop

Last time I restarted my iBook a sticky note widget for some reason appeared on my desktop, and I couldn't get it off. I have just restarted again and now the dictionary widget has appeard on my desktop! How do I get these off?

you can open Activity monitor, and kill the widget applications that won't stop. They should show up as having black icons and be named.

Activity monitor is located in Applications > Utilities.

See if that works

Repair permissions to try to prevent this from happening again and then try holding OPTION while the curser is over the widget to see if a little black circle with an X in it comes up. Clicking that should get rid of it. Of course, 840quadra's technique is a certainty to stop it because it'll get rid of all widgets on the same process but mine might not necessarily work. 🙂

I can use the widgets stuck on my desktop fine, and dashboard also works fine.

Well you must have turned on developer mode for dashboard on.. the way to remove widgets is to select them (and hold, so you can drag them around) and press the dashboard key so they go back to the dashboard. You can't just kill the process once they are active since restarting will make them come back on, unless they have fixed that. Hope you understood that but I just don't feel like using snapz to make a movie sorry.
