Anyone have any idea when some new widgets are going to show up for the notification center? Also, will the submission process be similar to the submission process for apps - or does it have different regulations regarding memory usage, etc.

I may be wrong but I don't think Apple has released the API to give third party developers the ability to do that.

I wish they would though. Hopefully they will sometime down the line.

Apple has never specifically said they are going to allow more widgets from 3rd party developers.

You will probably have to jailbreak to get them.

So we remain stuck with 2 widgets for the lifetime of ios5? I find it hard to believe that apple wouldn't want a slice of the profit pie from pay-to-play developer widgets.

Nobody said for the lifetime of iOS, I'm sure it will be an option down the road, it's just not an option now.

Everyone who has said the widget API is not available to developers is correct.

It's kind of disappointing, because there are some really cool things that could be done (my first idea was ESPN having a streaming scores widget). Then again, if it was open to devs, I could see the notification center getting overwhelmed with widgets.

But it would be our :apple:choice:apple: whether to download them or not, thus the issue of an over-cluttered notification center seems moot. (By the way the whole ESPN score thing was kind of exactly what I had in mind for what my notification center needs (and possibly RSS feeds...))

I would love to have that kind of widget in the notification centre.
