I have a GPX "boombox" with iPhone dock, which I have been using to listen to music and charge my iPhone 3GS for about 2 months. I have always gotten the incompatibility message having to do with Airplane Mode, but I just clear it, and everyting is fine. Last night, I noticed that it didn't start charging when I docked it. The battery was pretty low, so I wondered if that had anything to do with it. I just plugged into another charger and went to sleep. I docked it again this morning, and nothing. Then, I noticed that if the iPhone was off when I docked it, I would hear the charging tone, but I got the Charging Not Allowed message that you get with older Firewire based chargers.

At first, I tested my iPhone with several chargers, both Apple and 3rd party. All of them work just fine. I then took my wife's iPhone 3G and docked it in the boombox, and it charges fine with no error messages. What am I missing here? If the boombox was messed up, it wouldn't charge my wife's phone either. If my phone was messed up, then I think I would see more evidence with other accessories. Just for reference, I was running 3.1 until this morning, when I upgraded to the latest firmware. Any suggestions?

Do a fresh restore to solve the charge issue. There is issues with 3.1 and 3.1.2 where the iPhone no longer recognizes iPhone approved devices.

Messages range from 'accessory not supported' to 'Charging not allowed' a few of my mates have had your issue with devices outputting less than the apple standard charger.

I'm sure apple will be throwing 3.13 or 3.2 out it's doors soon.

I've noticed that my phone isn't charging on my non apple charger in my bedroom anymore.

Up until version 3.0, it would charge, but the phone didn't acknowledge it. It would just charge very slowly, and be charged by the next morning. With 3.0, after a few minutes, it would show charging. Still charge slower than normal, but faster than before.

Now, with an up to date phone, it isn't showing it again. After all night, the phone hadn't done any appreciable charging.

I have 2 real Apple adapters. One at work, and one in my computer bag for when I'm away from home (I'm afraid I will forget to take it with me). But I have other options when I'm away, such as plugging the phone into the laptop.
