So, I was looking for a program to clean up my mac a bit, and came across a free trial of "Main Menu." I'm not very good with macs, but after I used it, a bunch of wierd files showed up on my HD. I think they might be important files, so I don't dare delete them. But I dont know where they come from. If they are hidden files, I tried to unhide them using the terminal :

    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE

Which did nothing. Can anyone tell me what these files are and what I need to do to move them where they need to be.

    A couple examples of the files are: .hotfiles.btree ; .Trashes ; mach_kernel ; .vol ; bin ; sbin ; and a bunch of others.

    Thanks!

Did you restart Finder after using the Terminal command?
Those files and folders are system related, and normally hidden. And you don't need cleanup applications in Mac OS X for regular maintenance, as Mac OS X does it daily, weekly and monthly.
