Does anyone know or have any idea if wifi calling will be enabled on the iPhone 5 when iOS 8 is released?

Yeah right now it T-mobile and a European Carrier called EE. They said other carriers will come later.

From what I understand, it's for the 6/6+ only as it uses the new LTE chip and improved wireless technology.

Nope it doesn't that VoLTE. I have the iPhone 5S and I'm using Wifi Calling right now on T-Mobile.

For the beta releases it has been 5s and 5c only. Has it been added for the 5 for the GM release. If not I guess I am giving up hope on the 5 having wifi calling.

Spoke with a T-Mobile rep last night. No support for Wireless Fidelity Calling on the iPhone 5 (running iOS 8 GM). Sad, because my service is terrible in my house and it would have been a welcome feature.
