hi all,

I am about to buy an ipod touch, but i just need to know something. I am living at a college, and the network security there is fairly complex.

In order to access the wi-fi on my computer, i have to register my mac address witht he college admin, and then whenever i open an internet browser i need to enter my username and password in order to get onto the internet. I can also open most applications that require the internet on the computer.

However, i can bring another laptop onto the network, enter the WEP, and then when i can use the internet browser the same way by entering in my username and password. However i cannot open any apps.

Can anyone tell me if a ipod touch could go onto the internet there?

Thanks

You have to type in your username and password every time you start the web browser? This is after you registered your MAC address? I don't understand the setup there. Since we do not know exactly how the network is setup, your best bet would be to contact the IT department at your school and ask them if it's possible.

I'm not all that great with network connections and whatnot, but here's my $.02.

At my school, in order to access the wired connections in our rooms, we must register our mac addresses. So only the computer that is registered will be able to access the internet through that jack - swapping Ethernet cables won't work.

For WiFi, we need to first connect to our network, then enter our username/password through a VPN client.

If what you have to do is similar, then yes, you should be able to get online. I was just online with my iPod in my Communications class.
