the phone stays connected to the wifi but nothing loads? and the only way to remedy this is to turn the wifi off and on (from control center)

anyone know why this might be?

Seems a bit unusual, try forgetting the network if you haven’t already, so Settings > WiFi > (i) > Forget this network. Then reboot your phone, reconnect, and see if the problem persists.

Always a good jumping off point for diagnosing problems.

If the problem persists after that, try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Then after the reboot, connect again and see how you get on.

Hi, I am having similar issues with my 12 pro Max. WiFi performance on my home router is extremely poor compared with my old phone (iPhone X). Download speeds on the old phone were 73Mbps down and 18Mbps up, whereas I only get 15Mbps down and 12Mbps up with the iPhone 12 Pro Max while standing in the same location, which is 5 feet from my router. Anywhere else in my house and all bets are off for the Pro Max, which barely manages to connect at all. i believe this is either an issue with the software/firmware of the Pro Max or a design flaw. IOS 14.3 has not resolved this either, so I hope Apple will address this in the next IOS update.

It’s strange that it’s inconsistent, I’m getting the full speed of my internet connection, 520 down, 36 up, consistently.

What WiFi are you using? 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, AC, AX? Can you disable the 2.4Ghz in your router and see if it has an effect forcing it to a faster connection?

Hi TrueBlou, I tried disabling 2.4Ghz and obtained the same results as previously on just the 5Ghz. I still suspect an issue with the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I always find these things bizarre (and bloody annoying). After all, we’re using the same device and same software. In a closed and controlled system such as the iPhone, you would naturally then expect the same results.

Obviously that’s not taking into account the outside influences of different routers and so on. But if the router conforms to standards, and with some exceptions, most do, you should get similar results

However, out of curiosity, I tried the router supplied by my provider as, well, a router - ordinarily I only use it as a modem and leave the routing duties to my Orbi setup.

The results were shocking to say the least. Where I get a full 520/36 using the Orbi as the router and satellites. With the router supplied by my provider (Virgin Media) my speeds dropped drastically to 58/12.

To me that’s a clear indication that the router being used plays a huge part in the WiFi performance - but we already know that, I was just curious...... Back to the Orbi :D

Seems like Wifi speed related issues persist. Mine and wife's iPhone 12 Pro max can't exceed 23mbp on our home 200mbp Wifi connection. Only solution is to restart the iPhones to get it to go back to speed. The MacBooks and other devices don't have this issue.

I've had this problem with the 12 Pro Max since iOS 14.5 came out, not before. I have Aruba 215 APs throughout the house. No problem with any of the other devices. Connections are 802.11ac on 5GHz. My MBPro has no problems. My iMacs have no problems. My old iPhone 7+ on the same version has no problems. Pixel 3a has no problems.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max: 42.9d, 11.3u
The iPhone 7+: 178d, 23u

Again, same iOS version level, same Aruba APs, the variable is the 12 Pro Max hardware. Pretty awful, Apple.

Fixed for my device by resetting network config, creating new connection to same WiFi SSID

Whats weird about my 12 pro is that when I move close to the router the speed goes from 300-150, to 45-25 and goes from 3 bars of wifi to 2 its makes no sense
