DOES IT MATTER
So I had this problem about 2 months ago, I scoured the internet for a fix, which I eventually did and I can't find it again. So here I am.

Basically, what happens is I lock my phone, after about 2-3 minutes the WiFi disconnects and the only way to reconnect it is to go back into my settings, click on my network and then it logs in and works until I lock my phone again.

I HAVE TRIED THESE:

- Resetting my network settings

- Resetting my router

- Changing the channel on my router to channel 9

-

- Changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8

- Changed my HTTP Proxy to 'Auto'

I am not fully resetting my phone because I already know there is a fix where you don't have to do that, I just don't remember what it is.

Any help would be great, thanks!

You're on the right track, I think, with router settings. What model router is it?

To what "Security" type is your router set? If it's not "WPA2 Personal" you might want to give that a shot.

When you unlock the phone does it reconnect to WiFi on its own (within about 10 seconds or so)? It's normal for it to disconnect after being locked, but once unlocked it should connect again on its own fairly quickly.

I've been through 3 iPhones, the latest a 6+ and have never had one disconnect from WiFi when the screen was locked. I guess I've been lucky or my WiFi signal is a strong one.

Not sure about your experiences in particular, but disconnecting from WiFi shortly after the phone is locked (and the screen is off) has been a fairly standard thing for a long time, with quite a few threads on the topic over the years here at MR and various other places online.

Not disputing whether or not WiFi disconnects when the screen is locked, all I'm saying is that I have not experienced it with my iPhones. I just now checked again and my locked screen shows a WiFi signal with T-Mobile my carrier.

Right, and I can't really comment specifically on your personal experience, simply providing information of how it has been working in general for a while. To be technically correct, it's not just when the screen is locked when the connection gets dropped after a short time, but when the screen is off (which typically coincides with when its locked in most cases). The connection will get re-esablished fairly quickly when the screen is turned on but hasn't been unlocked yet (or will still be there if the screen is turned on shortly after it has been locked and WiFi hasn't disconnected yet).

Ah, that is the "Wi-Fi Assist," it disconnects so as to preserve your Wi-Fi's MAC address. Feature, not bug.

Kidding aside, does your browser history go back 2 months?

I think the wifi will remain connected during a lock if you disable cellular data. I used to keep my cell data disabled while at home. My phone would sit here locked and wake for incoming mail notifications and then resume lock. The mail notifications would appear on my phone before my Mac.
