Does anyone know how to turn this off? It's very annoying.

If I join a WiFi network on my laptop (MBA), it will sync the WiFi network name with my iOS devices. They will then try to join.

Two examples:

I joined my iPhone 6's personal hotspot with my MBA. Two minutes later, my iPad dropped its own LTE connection through it's built-in cellular and joined the personal hotspot of my iPhone.

Trying to avoid this, I joined the hotel's WiFi network on my MBA. 30 seconds later I see a notice on my iPad pop up to join the hotel's network.

Is there a way to stop syncing joined networks so that I can use one network on my MBA and not force it to other devices?

They are being synced by iCloud Keychain. If you turn iCloud Keychain off it will prevent this from happening.

The downside is, the rest of the items that are synced via the iCloud Keychain will no longer be synced either (i.e. websites, passwords, wifi info, etc) across devices.

iOS
Settings > iCloud > Keychain

OSX
System Preferences > iCloud > Keychain
