I have a newer Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.1 which is connected to a newer Linksys router. When I connect via wifi (connected at 300Mbps), I ping the router IP address and the latency times are consistently between 4 and 8ms. When I connect to the router via a cable with wifi turned off, the ping latency to the router is less than 1ms. A crappy slow Windows laptop connected via wifi to the same router reports less than 1ms ping latency.

My question is is this normal for the Macbook Pro and/or Lion to have higher latency when on wifi? The wifi never drops out and does not exhibit any other problems.

When i try pinging something like www.yahoo.com, I get the same results as what I describe above.
