I have used my iphone in my home network no problem, I even tried it on several public networks and managed to work fine, but sometimes when I try connect to these (public networks) my iphone is assigned an IP and Subnet Mask, but not the Router ip nor the DNS IP address, meaning that I cannot surf or connect to the internet.
Can someone give me a hint on what is going on?

Are you positive these other networks are not locked and the reason you aren't being allowed to surf is because you don't have the password? Do you have your wifi set to ask permission before joining networks? Also, if you know a friend with wifi, try going to their house and seeing if the phone connects at all. I have had issues at a few stores where it will show me connected, but I won't be able to do anything. I then changed my setting to ask before joining and I haven't had that problem since. Ask before joining also helps because it shows you right away if a network is locked or not.

Hi there,

I have exactly the same problem and have just assumed up to now that either the routers are misconfigured or that they do not work with the iPhone.

Mine works great at home where I know my router is properly configured and I've had it work at a couple of other places where the access is supposedly open but not at the vast majority of places.

Sorry I don't have better news. I'm running 1.0.2 unlocked so I don't know if 1.1.1 fixes it or not.

Cheers.

Yes I am completely sure, in fact I remember once a guy was surfing the web in a public network, the same it did not work for me...
I will try te ask permission stuff. thanks anyway

I had the same problem the last time i tried to use it on a public network and no one was able to answer for me. I tried fiddling with all the settings but to no avail. I felt kinda stupid when the guy I was with was online w/ his PC with no problem. Of course he had to take a jab at my $400 iPhone.
