I used it on an AIS receiver, so not just OBD2 adapters. Not sure why it’s not working for your dashcam.

When you say it wouldn’t connect to WiFi, do you mean all WiFi, or just the dashcam?

I only tried wifi in the dashcam’s wifi. As far as I could tell, other wifi wasn’t affected. I noticed that after the settings change, the wifi sign had an exclamation in it. Is that supposed to happen?

Yes...you should get an exclamation mark through the WiFi symbol and a messages underneath the SSID. You’ll also show a cellular symbol instead of WiFi in the status bar as you’re no longer trying to access the internet through WiFi.

Once it’s setup like that, you should be able to access the camera over WiFi, and the internet over cellular.

Yes, it looks like that. I tried it multiple times with the same result. I will try with my OBD2 at some point, but I really wanted this to work with the dashcam as it's always connected. Let me know if you have any other ideas. Until then, I'll crawl into my corner and be bummed.

That's strange. It really should work fine as long as you're setting the IP address of the iPhone to the value that was originally assigned automatically......or at least to an address within the same range.

Out of interest, try setting it up manually, but also fill in the router field and save those settings. That should work perfectly, as you haven't really changed anything. If that works, then go back in and remove the value from the router field and save it again and see if it still connects.

Yeah, that was one of the things I tried as well. Didn't work. Also, I confirmed that once I went back into auto, the IP, Subnet, Router addresses all populated with the same info I had originally put in the manual entry, so it's not some dynamic IP issue. I tried these things multiple times to make sure I wasn't making some input error. It sounds like it may be specific to the dashcam, but IP protocol should work regardless of device.

It's not true that Bluetooth is "not an option". It's just that Apple requires that devices like this go through a certification program for Bluetooth, and the cheap no-name Chinese OBDII makers don't want to go through the expense. You can get Bluetooth OBDII devices that work with iPhone. I have a Kiwi3.

If you are just using it for diagnostics, WiFi is fine. But if you are going to use it on the road, the WiFi will drain your iPhone battery much quicker. A Bluetooth dongle with LE will require much less power.

That's very strange. Without having the device to play with, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas......though it sounds like you've tried everything anyway, so I highly doubt I'd have any more luck with it than you did. 🙂
