The iPhone 3Gs is my first iphone and I have never used WiFi on a cell phone. I usually have Wifi turned off to save battery life, however, if I want to use WiFi and turn it back on, do I have to turn 3G off of does the Wifi automatically kick in? Thanks.

Simple.

SETTINGS --> WIFI --> ON

After that, just select which wifi network you would like to connect to, and enter any passwords/usernames if need be.

Enjoy your 3GS, and welcome to the iPhone community. :)

The WiFi automatically kicks in. It will switch to 3G seamlessly when you go out of WiFi range, and vice versa.

yeah once you sign into your preferred wifi network, just leave everything else alone. It will decide for you, which is faster...3G or wifi. Battery life wont be impacted a ton so just leave it to the phone to decide.
