I hope the wifi range is improved on the iPad. On my 1st gen range was horrible on my front porch. My iPhone 4 would always have more bars than my iPad. Does anyone have experience that can compare the range on the iPad 2 compared to the 1st gen? And any word on the new iPad if it has a better wifi radio?

Mostly depends on the WiFi router you have, all recent Apple devices are B/G/N ready so there shouldn't be a noticeable difference in signal strength

I would agree the router is critical. But in my case my iPhone has better speed at the same range when compared to my iPad. I'm hoping the new chipset provides better range.

I wasn't very happy with the Wifi range on my iPad 2. My router was in the middle of the house and I couldn't get more than 1 bar in my bedroom, whereas I got full bars in there on my Macbook Air...and my router is an airport extreme. My house has thick walls though so that likely contributed a lot to the weakened signal.

We have iPad 1, iPad 2 and iPhone 4s at my house. Does not seem to be a difference in wifi connection strength between iPad 1 or 2. The iPhone 4s on the other hand is way better than either iPad.

That's good news. Hopefully the iPad will have that radio in it.

My ipad 2 seems to get better wi-fi reception if I have it upside down (i.e. home button at the top).

I was bummed out with my iPad 1 wifi in some situations and I decided to check out wifi benchmarks vs the ipad 2. iPad 2 has much better wifi range than ipad 1, so you should be happier with the ipad 3 assuming they didn't go down in that aspect. I also ordered an Airport Express 5th gen to better cover my apartment over my 4th gen as I was getting a weak signal to the bedroom through a few walls.

So yes, you SHOULD see an improvement in wifi range over your first gen. I am hoping this is the case.
