Just bought the 17 Pro Max and the WiFi speeds have dropped massively vs my 16 Pro Max

I have ASUS BQ16 WiFi 7 with 6Ghz connected to a 1600mbit FTTP.

On the 16 Pro Max on speed tests I’d get 900-1200 over WiFi (that phone is WiFi 6E)

On 17 Pro Max I’ve not seen it go above 600.

Both instances multiple tests over the course of the day to many local endpoints.

All tests with phones approx 8 feet from WiFi router.

Not impressed with N1 so far.

Yeah noticed similar on our network compared to my previous 16 pro

The N1 chip does not take advantage of of the full 340MHz of Wi-Fi 7 and is peaked at 160MHz. A software update won't fix this. This will most likely be addressed with the N2 chip.

I just measured 1002/41.4 Mbsec on my 16 pro max, and 950/41.5 on my 17 pro max.

Repeating the test on the 17 gave me 998/41.5.

Using Ubiquiti’s cable modem (Xfinity) and Ubiquiti’s Dream Router (WiFi 7).

The 16 was the same though.

I am certainly a bit slower on 17PM compared to 16PM. I would be 1500-1600 down, 1000 up. It is night with a lot of usage, so will see how it looks tomorrow.

Also noticed the same with Ubiquiti WiFi network that speeds are noticeably lower in speed tests, also handover off between access points is really poor -- it holds the weaker AP for much longer than the 16 Pro Max did. Hopefully this can be fixed in a software update.

My download increased from 1400-1500mbps to around 1800mbs moving 16PM to 17PM. My upload decreased significantly from around 1400-1500 average to around 200-400. I’m running my 5GHz on DFS channel 100 and wondering if that could be related in some manner.

Are you seeing drops in both download and upload speeds?

Hi - could you share more details about the handover? This seems interesting. Did you notice a delay in moving between two access points in the same band (2.4G/5G/6G) or in different bands?

For me the problem is more like the range signal seems to be not the best. When I’m in another room the WiFi signal already drops down. Seems really weird to me.

Okay, yeah, speeds are a bit lower by 5-7%. But it's not a huge deal or a dealbreaker so far. Have to see how it works while walking around, things like that.

What about signal reach? I’m finding the Air vastly superior to my 14PM. At the elevator lobby in our complex I’ve still got full bars of wifi on the Air whereas I was right on the edge of signal dropping off with the 14PM. I’ll have to see how the wife’s 16P compares, but signal reach is at least better compared to the chip in the 14PM.
