It was in their help channel or whatever (http://wiibrew.org/w/index.php?titl..._brick_a_Wii_that_has_the_Homebrew_Channel.3F)

Q: Is there any chance at all that Nintendo can/will brick a Wii that has the Homebrew Channel?
A: Possible, but unlikely. It's far more likely that a future Nintendo update could *accidentally* conflict with the HBC. Keep checking on WiiBrew before installing updates and you'll likely be safe.

And yeah, I agree that you don't have to update the Wii, it's an option. My point was more if you want to update your Wii, and that particular update conflicts (as they're calling it) with the HBC, you will have to wait for them to update the HBC. And who knows how long that will take - though it probably will happen eventually.

Edit: I also remember reading that the uninstall does *not* get rid of everything, but it's 3 am and I'm pretty tired, so I don't want to go looking for it again :), sorry. Maybe later.

Coming from XBOX softmodding this was like eating cake :)

Though a lot of apps from that app page wouldn't work :/ IE not even show up in the app list.

Did you follow the guide to installation? You have to add a XML file alongside the .elf or .dol file in the proper directory for it to show up in the apps list. It'll show up regardless of whether the app even functions or not if the XML file is there.

The only app that didn't work through the homebrew channel for me was SNES9x, it couldn't read the SD card properly and it's a known bug. I had to load it through the Twilight Hack.

Oh didn't see that, admittingly I just downloaded the files and the readme's were a bit cryptic.

Try using the Falco version of SNES9X on wiibrew. The official release currently doesn't support the wii mote / classic and LoPsT is currently broken with the FrontSD slot. Once the official gets updated with the wiimote I'll switch to that.

The quake port is awesome btw... The developer is releasing regular updates and is close to releasing a gfx accel version. Playing through that game with the same control setup as MP3 has been very fun. Saves out to the SD card and all:)

YES. This is by far the easiest softmod I've seen. Best still it doesn't run pirated Wii games so I can sleep at night :D

Actually, you CAN pirate VC games with it. I was a bad man and got Smash 64 just because it hasn't been released here. I'll buy it when it actually comes out!

Looks like the 3.3 update kills the Freeloader too.

Wonder if it kills the homebrew version?

I was so swamped with work, that I didn't get around to installing this channel. I really wanted to try ScummVM on my Wii. :(

Now I guess I'm SOL, since I updated my Wii this week?

Crazy isn't it. Why would they even block the Freeloader? It doesn't play pirated games and Nintendo are still getting their money, just from another region. They didn't region lock the DS or GBA.
Whyyyyy?!

Don't look for common sense as you wont find it over at Nintendo HQ

I think someone's working on a downgrader and an alternate method of loading homebrew.
