I am having this issue with my 12pro max. My data speeds are garbage and I can’t even use my phone with out WiFi. I have spent close to 30 hours with support trying to work with att and not once did they offer a new sim. I am using the sim that was shipped to me with the phone. I don’t know what else to do.

The way I understand the system (5G) is that if there is wifi available, the phone defaults to wifi. NO wifi available (either turned off or not available), AND you're receiving 5G, that's what you get. Probably by design to cut down cellular usage. I'm on ATT's 6 gb plan and if I streamed a lot of 5G, I would probably exceed my limit.
 
I registered my best download Speed today while waiting in a long line for COVID 19 testing. LTE only. 5G shut off. The miracle of Qualcomm lol
