As title, will it work straight out of the box with this drive?

It'll be running on an Late 2009 2.53GHz Mini, running El Capitan.

Thanks

You can set up a DIY fusion drive using a SSD and a HD on a late 2009 mac mini. I did it using these instructions (and an El Capitan USB flash drive): http://www.techrepublic.com/article/pro-tip-how-to-create-and-disable-a-fusion-drive/

Just be careful with the SSD you pick as late 2009 minis are particular about them (something to do with the nvidia chipset - google for details) and some don't play very nicely, especially newer ones. I found a used Crucial M500 for this purpose and it works brilliantly.

Yes, go with a Crucial SSD. I have one in my 2009 and... still surprisingly FAST machine.
