Are you talking about current offerings? Have you looked at the Mac mini yet? It has a lower footprint on the energy bill too.

I can attest that both posters are correct. My 2010 base MP is a hair faster than my 2010 i7 MPB encoding via HB. You will need to upgrade CPU to 3.33GHz six-core to see appreciable difference, as I plan to do within the next two weeks or so.
