You haven't supplied enough detail to answer that question. It depends on the hardware in the MP and the MBP.
 
It is going to depend on the software you're using, but probably not.

The base MP is ahead of the base MBP, but a fully spec'd out MBP would be pretty close to the base MP.

I can attest that both posters are correct. My 2010 base MP is a hair faster than my 2010 i7 MPB encoding via HB. You will need to upgrade CPU to 3.33GHz six-core to see appreciable difference, as I plan to do within the next two weeks or so.
