I have an iMac G5 2.1 Ghz currently. For college, i will probably get a macbook pro. HOWEVER! I do want to keep this iMac around for college as well. By the time I am through college, it will be about 6 years old. Will adding more RAM lenghen its life in terms of handling the future?

If you are living with 512, you will definitely benefit from more RAM. No doubt about it. I suggest you buy at least one gig more, but remember, themore the better. Either go for a total of 1.5 or 2.0, because it will definitely increase the life and the persomance of your iMac.

More RAM won't affect the longevity of your machine, the quality of the components and the amount of use the machine gets will more affect the life. RAM will allow for more information to be stored at once instead having to get shared, resulting in a noticeably faster response from your computer.
