Nope. Your computer has to be on and awake. I use RemoteTap to wake my iMac from sleep. It's cheap and it's also a good remote desktop program to boot! Good luck!
From sleep? Yes. From shutdown? No. Air Video wakes my iMac from sleep...the Air Video server has to be running and the only way I can get it to wake is to uncheck the Map Port.

Could I ask what operating system your on? I'm on 10.6.3 and if air video is running with "wake for network access" tick my mac won't sleep. I've tried everything to get around it but no success.
I want to do what you doing in the sense of having my mac asleep and if I want to watch a vid use WOL and then AirVid server is running again.
