if I set my alarm and turn my phone off, will the alarm turn the phone on in order for the alarm to go off? Thanks.

Gosh yes, I remember my Ericsson T39m that I used until I joined the modern world with an iPhone 3GS. I set the alarm, turned the phone off and .... nothing happened. Learnt pretty quick that iPhones need to be on! I usually put it in airplane mode overnight if using the phone as an alarm.

I rarely use the phone's alarm, but next time I might try the new Bedtime feature as it turns "do not disturb" on and off automatically. However, the advantage of airplane mode is that it uses close to no battery.

You could just charge overnight

My 8+ is my alarm clock. Bedtime/DND work very well. Not sure Airplane mode would make much difference in battery. My phone uses about 2% overnight.

I love the bedtime feature. The alarm.... tones(?) are so much nicer that those available to the stock alarm in the Clock app. The bedtime reminders are a little obnoxious though.

Yep! I've given it a go. The fact the volume can be set specifically for the alarm is great. I don't use the bedtime reminders. I simply set the bedtime to some time before I set the alarm so it doesn't go off.

the t39m and the r520m were the two best phones of their day imo. I really miss their standby and talk times when using the extended battery.

Why don’t you just try it?

Set an alarm for 3 minutes time and turn your iPhone off. The world won’t end you know. Contrary to popular belief you won’t die if you turn your iPhone off. We all survived before iPhones.

Kinda misplaced condescension there because OP is clearly comfortable with having their phone off or the answer to their question would not be relevant to them.

Yes, the phone will turn itself on with the alarm. I have done this before.

And I'm talking about completely off, not "sleeping". Really can't understand where the people that say otherwise are getting their information. Maybe they have not done this and they IMAGINE the phone will stay off.

Not really, OP could be talking about doing it over night; when they sleep. Some people are afraid to be parted from their phones (when they aren't asleep) cause you know, something important might happen.

It doesn’t turn on

Not to forget the battery life

I have a Nokia 301 feature phone as a backup phone, and I use it daily as an alarm clock. It will turn on automatically if I turn it off, but interestingly it uses significantly more power when off than it does in airplane mode. It will only last a week or so when off, but a month or more in airplane mode.

But no, none of my smartphones will turn on automatically.

I’m talking about turning the phone completely off when I sleep and having the phone turn on to have the alarm go off. T39, r520, t68i, t610, w800, loves Sony Ericsson.

Well strictly speaking they weren’t truly off, they just seemed to be off to you ;) If they were truly off they would not have any awareness of the time and thus could switch itself “on”.

Off. I remember back in the day my Sony Ericsson would turn itself on for an alarm.

Yes, I was so happily surprised to find that my Sony Ericsson T610 would switch on, so I would never miss an alarm. Those were the days. Trillion dollar Apple can't do what Sony did back in the day. ;)
