Thats a good point - I forgot about apple works.

I just need a word processor - and infact, I'd type everything in notepad if it had formatting lol.

But since I dont have a printer, what I do is email my office documents to work, then print them off there.

So I'd need it to be compatible with office. But I think my girlfriend wants a printer, so she might buy one.... is it hard to find a printer that hooks to the imac??
Don't forget OpenOffice.org. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than Office (it's free), and more functional than Appleworks.

As for iMac printers - they're almost all compatible.

Hi Guys,

I once had a dual 1.25 G4 but sold it to get away from the apple loan.

I want another mac, but also a laptop for school next year, so I figured an iBook would be ideal.

I am looking at the low-end 800mhz 12" iBook.

I will upgrade the memory to max (not from apple, of course :D )

What I will be doing is:

iChat, iTunes, Photoshop, web surfing, Office v. X.

I am just curious if the iBook will have enough to do some photoshop, and if anyone has any opinions or reccomendations??

With the education discount, I can get it for around $950, so I will save up and pay it all at once.

Thanks!

Ok...now this is getting out of hand...

At first, I wanted the iBook because that was the lowest-cost way of me getting a mac.

Then, I was enticed by the iMac because for $100 more, I could have something better.

But lately I have been questioning the value of the imac and if it is worth the money.

I went to compusa, and they said they'll give it to me for $60 off of $1300 (I told them about apples education discount - they said the couldnt go that high, but they could do something).

So the past couple days, I have been going crazy trying to find a mac that will be best for me.

I am not worried about portability - the laptop only appealed to me because of the cost ($950).

I just want a mac that I will love and will let me do all the things I want.

I used to have a dual 1.25 power mac G$ w/ 1.24 gigs of ram. I LOVED it - but man was that thing noisy. The fans made it sound like I had a miniature 747 in my room.

So I am begining to consider a single 1.25 power mac G4. only $1299, plus I can get even more off with the education discount.

I have a 19" CRT, but I will more than likely be in the market for an LCD if I go this route. Im sure I could scrounge up the $$ to do so - besides, the iMac wouldve costed me more, as I would have got the 17" because I want a superdrive.

(I have my old pc so I will need to get another monitor if I get a PM so that my girlfriend can still use my PC - she likes mac, but gets frustrated because shes so used to windows).

Aside from me being crazy and indecisive, what are your thoughts on this?

if you are worried about sound and price, i would recomend the ibook. you can hardly hear it and it is marginal on most computer intesive stuff. but the easy stuff like web browsing and easy day to day activities it will be perfect. I recomend it because of portability but also for the lack of fans and sound.

i own the 12in iBook G4 (see sig for specs) and it is wonderful. it's a great deal, and it runs beautifully (i'm a graphic design major, so i use lots of processor intensive apps)

my vote goes for iBook G4 12in model (only, dont think about the 14)
