My guess is that it will be 'free' with a new device for a year (to keep you buying stuff). Alternatively they'll bundle it with Applecare, iCloud etc..

Truth is I'll gladly pay if it's good. I already sub to one or two of ChatGPT/Gemini/Claude at any given time, so my personal friction about paying for AI services is behind me.
They've been making paying customers wait so long for Apple Intelligence now they're obligated and they will (and they should) give it away for free for 2-3 years. It will be like the satellite messaging features that have been free indefinitely.... But eventually, of course they'll charge for it.

At the moment, there is zero value in Siri chatbot, or not. Every one off Apple's services in Apple One is broken with major bugs to some extent on macOS 26 and iOS 26. Apple Music doesn't work on macOS. Apple TV has no Dolby Vision on macOS. iCloud Mail is outgoing server is broken AND Hide My Email doxxes the primary email address. Apple Fitness has an abysmal UI. Apple Health is utterly useless with tons of bugs scattered throughout. Apple software is in complete shambles under Craig Federighi.

Let’s assume the new Siri is going to actually work and be a genuine rival to other services, because if Apple mess up again then this time they’re really in trouble. The overwhelming majority of posts here are along the lines of people not willing to pay. Not paying for an unwanted service is one thing and Apple will presumably still allow users the option of turning it off no matter how deeply integrated it is since that’s already an option for the current Siri.

But expecting not to have to pay for a newer, more powerful Siti that can rival other paid services seems odd. This is going to cost Apple plenty. It’s unrealistic to expect them to offer it free forever. I think a charge at some point is inevitable, however it’s rolled up into mix.

If it appears as a separate subscription and doesn’t sell (most people here aren’t buying, it seems, but that might not be reflective of the entire user base) then what does this say about AI in general. A failed commercial project?

Should be free initially but then maybe after a year or two, can see a premium tier and possible for it to be a part of Apple One. This can ensure an additional continuous revenue in the 'Services' sector.

If I buy a thing for $X where the primary usage of the thing is to access it via a voice AI chatbot, and then I have to also pay a subscription for the AI chatbot, and the thing is basically a paperweight without that, then guess what? I'm not buying the thing.

Personally I have no interest in using "AI" (i.e. machine learning ... and they are still learning) for anything other than assisting simple searches. Even then, I have to almost-always either query the "AI" summary for more details, or (usually) ignore it altogether and go to the original search hits for accurate information.

The quicker this bubble bursts, the better, because ... subscriptions or not .... we are all paying indirectly for this voyeurism.

If they do (charge) that would be the ultimate p**s take.

We’ve suffered Siri for years, so we deserve an upgrade.

We pay Apple Tax, so should receive a solid product.

Man, this era is absolutely terrible. It’s gonna be funny when the AI bubble pops a lot of the features on these devices are gonna be useless and handicapped because they rely on it I think I’m gonna avoid buying any technology until this fad is over 😂

I bet it will be iCloud Premium for around 15$/15€ per month with all the current iCloud features included.

If so, I sure hope they go the freemium route that a lot of other AI chatbots seem to have or are heading. I like being able to ask ChatGPT stuff without having to necessarily purchase a subscription.
