They won't do it. Period. End of story. If you have only a P.O. box you'll have to get your PowerMac at an Apple store.
This has nothing to do with Apple though, and everything to do with the Post Office...It's the regulations the Post Office has...letter size items only to a P.O. box.
Actually, it doesn't have much to do with size either. I don't remember if they ship Fedex or UPS mostly now, but PO Boxes are only for the Postal Service. They do have areas for larger size items, but only if it's shipped USPS.

When you get a package that you need to sign for, or requires an adult signature you get a notice in your POB that you need to go up to the counter and sign for it.
I've had a few things shipped to my college address from Apple and other places, no problem. The address is along the lines of:
My Name
Address of dorm building
Room Number
City, State, Zip
Unless you knew it was a dorm, you'd think it would be an apartment number which of course they ship to. What my dorm does, is all the packages go to the front desk and are signed for by a college employee, then they put a slip in our mailbox telling us we have a package and to pick it up
Abstract, it's secure. I'd never have a computer shipped to my college address since there's an Apple Store in St. Louis that I'm 10 minutes away from at home, and 90 minutes away from at college. But if there wasn't, I'd have no worries. The things I have had shipped from Apple were Tiger (no edu discount in stores) and a TV out adapter which I was not about to drive 200 miles round trip for. So no expensive computers, but I'd feel safe if I did have one shipped here. The way my dorm does it, is we get that slip of paper in our locked mailbox, and we take that paper and show our student ID (with our picture) to pick up the package. And they're nazis about packages too which makes it even more safe. Mail and the package slips aren't placed into our mailbox until around 4 PM, and the various companies deliver early in the morning, like 9 AM. There have been times when the tracking page shows it was delivered, way before we get the package slips, and I tried to get my stuff, but they won't give the package to you without the slip.
