I have read on this forum that Apple is no longer a 'computer' company and was worried whether they will continue to make computers in the future.

I was hoping to get a mac but now im not to sure

You've got to be kidding me.

They will never stop making computers. They dropped 'Computer' from their name because they have started expanding on to making entertainment and portable products like the iPod, iPhone, AppleTV, etc.

There is no doubt Apple will continue making computers. Mainly due to the popularity of OS X. If Apple made OS X available for PC's, then how would they make money? No one would need to chose between 3 laptops or a basic desktop configuration costing £1699. Why pay £1699 for a desktop you can build for about 1000? :p So as long as OS X is being updated, so will the computers.

Of course Apple are still going to make computers. Everything they're doing is turning people towards the Mac. Mac sales are growing quarter after quarter, and now with the Intel transition there will be no sudden roadmap hiccups as happened in 2000 to cause that to suddenly reverse.

If Apple were going to abandon the Mac they would have already done so years back. Your purchase will be perfectly safe.

It true it's no longer Apple Computer Inc and is now Apple Inc.
But that's only because they make other products besides computers now.

    Is The Pope German?

Are you from Mars? Apple will always make Macs way beyond when Steve Jobs is dead and into the next century.

Everything they make is based around computers.

iPod is a computer, iPhone is a computer, the Mac range are computers, Apple TV is a computer etc.

I mean one to crush all other competitors. They're ahead of Microsoft in innovation, so Sony shouldn't be too hard to beat.

The only people worth competing against in the gaming space at the moment are Nintendo, boy did they win BIG with the Wii! :D

yeah but mac has no game design studio, all software will have to be third party, and of course it would have to run OSX, they might as well just convert the mini and add a better intragrated graphics chipset, AMD CPU/GPU combo chip anyone?

While I'm an Apple fan, I don't think their strength lies with gaming consoles. If you think about it, Apple does well when design, size, and weight are crucial factors. Certain ideas like the iPhone are good ideas because they bring something new to the table. In gaming, Apple will need to come up with something truly revolutionary. A slimmer, sexier, and stylish console won't mean much to nerds who don't get out much:p Think about it, don't you like showing off your Apple stuff?

With all the issues to be concerned about in the world, this is one that can be safely dismissed. The basic cornerstone of Apple revolved around the computer. The expansion into other areas does make it seem that the Mac and OS are being overlooked and delayed, but that same growth is an integral sign of health and vitality, and in the end we are all benefactors of the creativity and unique innovation coming from Cupertino.

Apple already released a games console. It was called the Pippin (I think anyway. Correct me if wrong) and failed epically.

Yes, I believe you are correct. However, Apple also came out with the Newton, and although that failed, the iPhone is doing well (so it seems). I guess anything's possible when it comes to Apple.
