They've never used a screen for only one iteration especially an S cycle,

given this has full dci-p3 color range, it seems like a lot of money to move on a year later, no?

i know its also 10th anniversary so maybe they will go all out, but being underwhelmed seems like the new expectation

And, contrary to what some may say, we don't actually know whether or not 2017 will be an S cycle.

I know the color is more vibrant but has anyone seen the demo android units on display at Best Buy that have OLED screens? I was there not too long ago and there wasn't one OLED screen that didn't have burn in on it. Looked terrible.

Agreed OLED has burn in. But you do realize the demo models in stores run for hours and hours, so naturally these will show burn in somewhat more dramatic.

I would think that most of the money invested in R&D of the panel came from Apples suppliers. And most likely most/all of the technology already existed, it was just a matter of someone (Apple) wanting to pay the price for it.

So - no, I don't think this makes it any less likely Apple moves to OLED next year. JMO :)

OLED for the 5.5" (and bigger) screens next year, but I think it may not debut for the 4.7" until 2018.

It may depend on what the yields are.

The blacks on OLED screens are unbeatable and the contrast is something that probably LCD cant come that close but due to the pentile diamond matrix a 1080p OLED does not look as sharp as a 1080p apple display ( in my own subjective viewing experience ). Currently Samsung made OLEDs really suffer from a lot of color uniformity issues, it is actually quite rare to find an modern generation OLED panel from samsung with great color uniformity in certain colors ( especially on greys )

I think Apple will just release a 7S, without changing the design. It's stupid for them to get rid of the S models, that means the iPhone names will run out in a shorter period of time. I don't like OLED displays, since they will burn in after 1 or 2 years of use.

Well, I defy any possible burn-in with my settings ...low power mode exclusively.

So bring it on...would love OLED.

See the Macbooks with the new oled bar and the watch 2 with the oled panel, I don't think it'll be far when the iPhone carries this. Supposedly samsung was already producing these for apple.
