Apple typically releases new iPhone color options every year as a mid-product cycle refresh, so when can we expect a new finish in 2025?

Apple has added new iPhone colors on six occasions in the past, consistently in either the March or April following an iPhone's launch:

  • iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: (PRODUCT)RED (Tuesday, March 21, 2017)
  • iPhone 8 and 8 Plus: (PRODUCT)RED (Monday, April 9, 2018)
  • iPhone 12 and 12 mini: Purple (Tuesday, April 20, 2021)
  • iPhone 13 and 13 mini: Green (Tuesday, March 8, 2022)
  • iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max: Alpine Green (Tuesday, March 8, 2022)
  • iPhone 14 and 14 Plus: Yellow (Tuesday, March 7, 2023)

There are currently no rumors about new color options for the iPhone 16, and it's possible Apple could skip this year like it did for the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and iPhone 15 in 2019, 2020, and 2024. That being said, Apple has released new colors many more times than it has chosen not to do so since 2017, so a refresh is possible this year, but given Apple didn't do so last year, it's far from certain.

Apple has only ever added new "Pro" model color options once, in 2022, so while it's theoretically possible this year, it is perhaps more unlikely than likely.

The iPhone 16 is available in Black, White, Teal, Pink, and Ultramarine. A new red, yellow, purple, or grey seem possible since these have all been offered on iPhone models in the past and are not too similar to any of the existing shades. There are usually rumors that point to which new color to expect, but it may still be a little too early for this based on previous years.

Typically they do around this time of year, yep. BMW calls it the "life cycle impulse." Usually it's very minor tweaks in the middle of a model's run to drive up a few sales at the midpoint of the run as the product gets a bit stale, and sometimes tweak/optimize production.

Not like it'll get a new SoaC or become a different phone model, but sometimes it's like throwing in a like-for-like new battery vendor, or the display provider changes. End user won't see a difference except "hey look it comes in purple now!" Rarely, technicians occasionally will encounter a "rev.A" "rev.B" on certain internal subcomponents for "iPhones made after XYZ date." Convenient for recall cutoffs. In my days as a Mac Genius I would see tiny changes like a chip made by Texas Instruments becomes a Samsung one or two capacitors becomes one, etc.

I think people are beyond a new shiny color to drive iPhone demand. Especially given how much longer people keep their phones.

If Apple Intelligence has barely made a dent in sales , a new color most likely won't either

I think most people are looking forward to the SE 4 at the moment. With the rumoured specs and price, there’s almost no reason for the typical consumer to buy anything else.

Not only that but adding a new color mid-cycle can actually irritate your consumers who would’ve purchased that color instead of the color they did. That’s probably the reason Apple is more reluctant to do it with the more expensive Pro models. Some people were mad that Apple didn’t offer the alpine green right away with the 13 Pro. I wouldn’t be surprised if some actually contacted Apple to not do it again and offer ALL planned colors from the beginning.

I would’ve been really pissed off if Apple had introduced my favorite iPhone color so far, Pacific Blue, mid-cycle on the 12 Pro and I would’ve gotten another color. Now for the 17 Pro, how about offering teal and/or burnt orange? The new colors should look good with a revised camera look on the back. No one will mistake it for any previous iPhone. Call the burnt orange “Sunset Orange” or something. Maybe “Mint Green” for the teal.

We've been watching an older series on Netflix and the main character has an iPhone 5c, it's a bright green.

I never owned one, but yeah, colors are fun. Then again, everyone buys cases, some cases allow the color to show through them in some capacity while others don't.

Brown one please!!! I would very much like to have the Bronze one that Samsung did..
We’ve had bronze iPhone rumors for a long time. Personally, I would like to see a burnt orange color on the Pro, but that’s probably more likely to happen on the base model. I wish Apple would offer five colors on the Pro, three conservative colors and two vibrant colors like a burnt orange, teal, a lighter shade of purple than the 14 Pro’s Deep Purple, etc. Maybe another Product Red for the red lovers out there. Maybe brown/bronze as a new conservative color?

I wouldn’t mind a yellow.

I’m getting old and it’s getting harder and harder to find my items.
That’s why I had a white 11 Pro after a black X, now I compromised with the titanium 15 Pro.
Also light colors make the bezel seem thinner than dark ones, too. For the ones that care about these things.

Titanium is very difficult to anodize or otherwise apply color to compared to stainless steel or aluminum, which is part of the reason why the Pro colors have been so dull since the 15 series came out. That being said a nice chocolate brown should be doable.

I still want a revival of the Midnight Green from the iPhone 11 Pro. (The short lived iPhone 13 Pro mid-cycle Alpine Green is a close second).

If they release an orange iPhone 16, that would probably be the only reason I'd get a 16 over the SE rumored to come very soon.
Orange would be interesting are we talking Mopar hugger orange 😎
