I'd just like to see them release (at product release, not mid-cycle) iPhone Pros in colors that aren't just white, black, almost white, and almost black (desert titanium is barely a color). They often do these incredibly muted colors for the Pro series - I guess because nobody could possibly want both "the best camera" and "fun".

Would it really be unfeasible to have a color configurator like for cars and let people configure the color on their phone. That would certainly drive sales and they could probably charge like $250 extra for it.

The right question to ask is "Will Apple update their Trash Tier Non-Pro models with 120hz screens?"

Not expecting to see a new colour this year. A new colour half way through the product life cycle might be helping to boost the sales but I prefer to have all the colour choices from day one.

Burned Orange or something similar to Pacific Blue (<- BTW: Best iPhone color ever!) for the pros.
I wouldn’t mind a return to Pacific Blue. I still have my PB 12 Pro. However, I would be even happier if Burnt Orange or “Sunset Orange” was on the color menu for the 17 Pro. Teal would be my second choice with PB as my third choice. I’m also hoping for a new look with the camera on the back.

”Introducing Space X-Rays and Midnight Infrared finishes. Because we running out of colors and yes, they are invisible to your eyes.”

Typically they do around this time of year, yep. BMW calls it the "life cycle impulse." Usually it's very minor tweaks in the middle of a model's run to drive up a few sales at the midpoint of the run as the product gets a bit stale, and sometimes tweak/optimize production.

Not like it'll get a new SoaC or become a different phone model, but sometimes it's like throwing in a like-for-like new battery vendor, or the display provider changes. End user won't see a difference except "hey look it comes in purple now!" Rarely, technicians occasionally will encounter a "rev.A" "rev.B" on certain internal subcomponents for "iPhones made after XYZ date." Convenient for recall cutoffs. In my days as a Mac Genius I would see tiny changes like a chip made by Texas Instruments becomes a Samsung one or two capacitors becomes one, etc.
BMW LCI is a great comparison. The E9X 3-Series got so much more attractive post-LCI.

I miss this trend, as well as the Product RED options. iPhone 8 Plus Product RED will still go down as the best iPhone I ever owned.

Unfortunately I think both Product RED and "new spring color" are not coming back.

"and it's possible Apple could skip this year like it did for the iPhone XR, iPhone 11..."

Um... the 11 Pro had the awesome Midnight Green, which I have and love. Reminds me of some mysterious ancient tech found beneath the sea...

It's an intriguing idea, and I would trust one with a custom color done in-house by Apple, but there would be support and logistics issues involved.

For instance, what if you take your iPhone that's custom "painted" in Pantone 123456 in for repair? They can't give you a refurb off the shelf because it'd be black, white, or silver. So you'd have to be without your phone for several weeks while they have a new one done in the factory. And if they have to replace it with a brand new (and newly painted/anodized/coated) phone, then normal AppleCare+ pricing would go out the window ("do you want a black/white/silver replacement for the usual AppleCare fee, or would you like an ExactColor replacement for the discounted price of $900?").

Midnight Green was a launch colour for the 11 Pro, not a mid-cycle addition.
