Why on Earth would anyone expect them not to? In addition to the X/8/8+ they’re still selling the last two generations of phones, and for a fairly high price too!

They’ve never not sold at least one generation previous alongside the latest model.

They just put it in a new shell and called it the 5c, but internally it was still the same phone.

But okay, I’ll grant you that there is that one precedent for discontinuing a phone after one year, but it seems very unlikely that it will happen to the model that they have literally called the future of the iPhone.

Personally, I think it has a slightly higher chance of happening than predicted. The BOM for iPhone X has shot up significantly compared to previous iPhones. I would not be surprised if Apple retained $999 for their high end OLED designs.

Let's look at the predicted pricing for 2018. The gap between Y and Z isn't too big. For a lot of people, I suspect the $100 between X and Z isn't big enough to stay with X.

I don't think they have ever kept this many devices in the lineup. I understand keeping the SE as the budget phone, and 7 for the ones that are ok with previous generation. But what is the point of holding on to the 6s series?

Must be a market that refuses or can’t afford to pay the premium price of the newest models.

On the flipside, I have to commend Apple for creating diversity in there line up. Granted some of the current iPhones they have now likely won't be there come Fall 2018, but it's important to realize that everybody has a budget and different wants in an iPhone. Apple understands the iPhone X is not meant for everybody, hence why they offer various iPhones offered in there lineup.

I don't disagree with this. As I mentioned in the previous post, A thousand dollar iPhone is not an attractive price point For many, regardless if they can afford it or not. Apple offering an entry-level price point with the iPhone SE and all the way up to the iPhone X, creates different options in between those iPhone models.

Similarly, how Apple added the 9.7 2017 iPad in their lineup last year at a $329 starting price point. They are giving consumers options, which we should be grateful for.

Also, remember. There are a lot of parents buying their kids phones and I am sure the 6s makes much more sense to most parents at about half or less than the cost of the x. My 3 nieces(age 15-21) all have iPhones and I hear about lost or damaged phones every few months.

Forgot to mention.

Back in the keynote that Jobs gave for the 3G, he really stressed one point about the new phone. And that point was that the 3G was “more affordable”. This is something Apple has definitely gotten away from on almost all of their product lineup
