I think the first step should be to get AirPlay working on the desktop version of Spotify. The iOS version has it, but not the desktop. Could eliminate some of the need to have it directly on the AppleTV.

But you already said your AV receiver has it built-in, so why would YOU need it on AppleTV?
As I said, Spotify would need to want it just as much as Apple would. You may find that Spotify would need to negotiate new licensing terms to have content played on a TV.

I don't need it, and I never said I did. Others might find it useful though.
As for renegotiating rights for a TV (press release):
Spotify can be operated from any television screen connected to Onkyos home cinema receivers. With a few simple clicks on your remote youre given onscreen access to your own playlists as well as your Whats new and Starred lists. Youll also be able to explore further to browse artists, albums and tracks.
It's an audio service. Why would it make any difference if it's on a TV or not? On the AV receiver there is a TV out with a user interface. Apple TV would be no different.
