Guys I’m happy to report I’ve been wearing my Series 4 all day on my sleeve and have not had 1 disconnect. Very happy!
On the Series 3 I would’ve had 1 or 2 disconnects by now. Looks like they improved the sensors on the 4. I am in love with my 44mm SBSS. :)

keep us posted :)

When I had Series 1 for a short time, I found that wrist protection would kick into authentication mode when the watch slipped down to the non-tattooed portion of my wrist or vise versa. I figured that it triggered the need for a password because the sensor thought the watch was on a different wrist.

Are you or others who have had success with the Series 4 tattooed similarly to me?

keep us posted :)

Been wearing the Series 4 for almost 3 full days now and haven’t had 1 lost connection. It seems Apple definitely improved the sensors knowingly or unknowingly to work better on tattoos. :) Maybe it has something to do with the sensor being closer to the skin..but whatever it is, it seems to be working.

Well after 5 days I can confirm that the new sensor works 100% on my black and grey tattoo sleeve.

As explained above my series 3 would randomly lock itself often throughout the day thinking it had been removed from my wrist, when exercising on my rowing machine each morning it would often pause the rowing workout.

I’ve been wearing the series 4 daily from when I get up until when I go to bed since it was delivered on the 21st, not once has it locked itself, nor has it paused during any workout. I couldn’t be more happy with it.

This is incredible news! Thanks for posting. Seems like I need to order now.... :)

Now, since there will be two types of sensors that detect yuour heart (IR, and electrical) will the Series 4 work better on tattoos?
I've had previous generations but they wouldn't work properly on my wrist due to tattoos.
They would lock frequantly due to not detecting being on a wrist (with dark tattoos).

Any info on this?

I can confirm, I had the same issue with series 1-3. The problem has disappeared with the series 4! I am finally able to use the Apple Watch to its full functionality! Should have no problems with the series 4 and your tattoos

It still catches me out occasionally but only when the watch rides up on to my wrist bone, that at the tat's together form a rare occasional issue.

So that I’m clear, you have the series 4 now and are experiencing issues? Is your wrist tattooed in the area where it triggers the issue and therefore when the watch slides from a tattooed area to a non-tattooed area wrist detection is triggered?

My wrist is tattooed right down to just above the base of the hand itself which means the tat goes over the 'lumpy' wrist bone. Occasionally the watch is lifted on top the the edge of the wrist bone which breaks skin contact. This contact breakage is made worse by that area being tattooed. Apart from these rate issues I've had nowhere near as many disconnections compared to those I had with the S3. So to cut to the info it works as well as it can do. Still not as good at getting a reading as the Fitbit Ionic was - as that never lost a reading ever, even it it was worn very loosely.

It seems that the wrist detection issues are still present with some tatttoos. I’ll give the 4 a try. Hopefully it will work. Otherwise I’ll return it. Fingers crossed.
