When upgrading to Mavericks, will the Safari, Chrome and Firefox bookmarks be saved or will it require a reinstallation of the browsers? How about photos? I'm thinking that I'd like to do an upgrade as opposed to a reinstall of OS-X. If installing Mavericks for the first time (vs. an upgrade only), I presume that all browsers, photos, data, etc. would be lost and a backup should be done first?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, although I'd perform a complete backup with CCC or similar first. I upgraded to Mavericks and lost nothing, but have subsequently done a clean install due to a few niggles that appeared. If you perform a straight upgrade and do not erase the HDD/ SSD you should be fine.

If you want to perform a clean install, make sure you export your iTunes and iPhoto or Aperture libraries before you do. I did that too the second time, and all went smoothly.
