Can anyone confirm the below.
there are a couple scenarios.

1st. A cellular watch that has never had a data plan active - will sos work abroad?
2nd Cellular watch with active data plan. yes, will work abroad.
3rd. A cellular watch that at one stage had a active data plan, but that plan is no longer active (ie it’s been cancelled but the profile is still on the watch)


  1. The international emergency calling feature requires an Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS + Cellular) model.
  2. Device must have been setup for cellular service with a carrier but does not require an active cellular plan. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207578

further to this I was running without my phone and my watch started to call 911 as it thought I fell. I heard the 911 operator answer and told them it was an accidental call.
