Does anyone know if this will work, or do I need FC Server?

    Many thanks in advance!

Why do you wanna run FCS on SL Server?

It will not gain Server functionality, that's what FC Server is for.

And FC Server is not meant for editing, as you can read here:

    Hello, thanks for the reply

I have a spare copy of FC studio and I would like to use an upcoming server as a render node if it is possible.

the only network rendering is done with Compressor and I believe you don't need to install FCS on the node, just Qmaster.

    FCP doesn't support network rendering.

Thanks very much for the info

So no distributed rendering with FCP - that's a shame but at least it will speed up the last stage + if qmaster works without an extra license, that means there is still a spare copy of FCS for another workstation.

Out of interest, does it only affect the FCP timeline? Can the export and share functions be distributed?
