Will free internet be continued if I have a new sim in iphone 3gs?

After the announcement of the iphone 4, my friend wants to do the contract deal to get the 4 and he will sell me his 3gs. The thing i have been wondering is that he is on a contract with 02 and is paying more for the internet.

Now being the cheapskate I am, I hope to put an 02 PAYG sim in and firstly will that work, and secondly will I have to pay for the internet or will it just work for free?

I know I haven't really explained it well but reply anyway, share your knowledge!
