I want to sell my iPad 3. My iPad 3 runs on iOS 6. Before selling, I want to back up to iTunes. I plan to get an iPad 5 in a few months. The iPad 5 will run iOS 7.

Sooo. I was wondering will my backup be rendered useless?

I haven't gone that direction, but I had an ipad3 icloud backup that could not be restored backward onto an ipad1

Yes you can. Don't worry about this! But make backup in iTunes, not in iCloud.

Good to know wispy, what is the problem with using an iCloud backup instead?

It takes a lot longer to restore from an iCloud backup. Also, if you make an iTunes backup, you can backup the backup, if you know what I mean.

I didn't think of that. That makes a lot of sense. I am going to do that from now on. Thanks.
