I have not found an answer but am wondering if I will be able to use my extra power adapter that I have for the iPhone with the iPad as well? Or is there not going to be enough power?

I believe you can. It just won't charge as fast as the iPad charger.

I think you can but it will take twice as long to charge. According to Andy Ihnatko, the iPad takes about 6 hours to charge with the power brick it came with. So I'm guessing ~12 hours for a full charge.

Thanks! Was curious since I've got a couple of extra power adapters here and thought, hey, maybe I could put them to use when traveling and such.

The real question should be. Since the iPad comes with a power adapter why would you even want to use the iPhone adapter ?

The iPad power adapter isn't exactly big or small, but it's hefty compared to the tiny iPhone USB power adapter. If I'm planning on packing light for a trip, I'd use my phone charger to charge myPad instead of packing two chargers.

The iPhone charger should charge faster than a computer's USB port, but slower than the actual iPad adapter.

I wouldn't use it all the time, as obviously, yes, I'll have the iPad's very own power adapter. I was just looking at the extra power adapters that I've collected with my other devices and was just wondering..... If for some reason the accessory power adapter for the iPad isn't available by the time I take my next trip, one of those could fill in if need be. I usually like to have an extra power adapter around, both for use at home and for travel.

I have an old ipod power brick and it charges at 5v 1amp. Wonder how that compares to ipad one.

    Power (wattage) = I (amperage) x E (voltage)

The iPad charger is 5 volts x 2 amps = 10 watts, or twice your iPod charger's power output.

    Yes.

Anybody know what happens when you try to charge a MacBook Pro with a MacBook 60 watt adapter instead of the 85 watt adapter that comes with it?

If it takes 6 hours off the wall outlet, that does not bode well off a car cigarette outlet

I wonder if someone could possibly make a speed charger?

Wonder what happens if you use the iPad adaptor with the iPhone?

I had a MacBook for work and a MacBookPro at home. The MacBook adaptor could keep the MBP running, but it wouldn't really charge while using the machine.

Now, that being said, it really isn't a good idea to do this for a long time. The MBP is trying to sync as much current as it can while the 85W power supply can't supply it. Over time the supply gets hotter (I never ran it for a long time so I can't say HOT), and eventually could burn out the power supply and, in the worst case, cause a fire.

The general rule of thumb with power adaptors is that you can use a supply rated with higher watts but not lower (assuming the voltage is the same). Thus the MB can safely use the MBP power adaptor, but not vice versa (Although they are close enough where it shouldn't be dangerous).

We the real answer is we do not want to carry our power adapter with us where ever we go! Nice to have one at home and one at the office and maybe an auto charger to boot!:D

Even though I will have access to USB, I still want to be able to charge when my computer is turnewd off at both office and house.

The car charger could charge faster than all the AC chargers or even USB.

Lots of available amps with car charging

I have the opposite question. Will the iPad charger charge the iPhone twice as fast? :D
