I just read the front page article on the direct access to the Gutenberg Project books on iPad. Just wondering if this and/or any other iPad apps will be accessible through the iPhone. Any insights?

No one here knows for sure.

But I'd bet it's a very safe bet. I can't think of any reason why Apple wouldn't put it on the iPhone.

The one holdup is that it might be something they put in 4.0 and not the current OS, so then you'd have to wait until June. That's just a guess too, though. You could get it next week!

Well just thinking, I think they would allow it on the iPhone. I mean in the first few months there are going to be a crap load of more people with iPhones then iPads and I do not even think that there will be more people with iPads. If Apple wants to make alot of money they will let it go on the iPhone. If not in my eyes it would be a very very very stupid idea.

I agree. If Kindle has an iPhone app, then surely Bookstores will show up (eventually).

I don't think it will be. That's just a reason for people to not buy an iPad. There will be tons of iPad only apps, and no reason this won't.

Or it's a hook. an iPhone user buys a few books from iBooks, decides they want an ebook reader, what do they get, the device they already own books for of course! Plus the benefit of getting kindle on the iPad also.

Also, it will be cool if it uses a whispersync like tech, sync your reading position between all your devices.

This. I highly doubt that this will come to the iPhone. It's what makes the iPad special.

I think the iPad is pretty well differentiated with the much bigger screen and faster processor. I suppose time will tell.

From this Rumor on the Front Page of Mac Rumors
iTunes 9.1 to Bring eBook Support, Genius Mix Enhancements, Automatic Bitrate Conversion?

Sounds like books will be on iPhones and iPod Touches as well.

Apple wouldn't want to miss the revenue from the iPhone/touch market though.

If it does come to iPhone, could an iPhone 3.2 update be coming next week? Or just a download? Maybe iBooks is a universal app.

I know 499 reasons (and possibly more) why Apple will not place the iBookstore App on the iPhone.

Apple makes the majority of its revenue by selling hardward though. Selling a couple books to a customer is a drop in the bucket compared to them purchasing an iPad.

That said, it would be absolutely fantastic if it is allowed on the iPhone. It will make placing books onto the iPhone a lot easier than via Stanza.

If that is the case, why is it being rumored iTunes 9.1 will have iBook support for the Mac? Apple is using iBooks, not just to push the iPad, but more importantly the iTunes ecosystem. They don't care which products you buy as long as you are buying their products.

I don't think Apple will make a Ibook app similar to the Ipad's for Touches and Phones it will just be a reader app that can read Apple's Epub format. You'll buy the books thru the app on the desktop and Itunes will sync it to the reader app.

Not putting the iBooks store on the iPhone is fine with me. However I want to be able to sync and read my books and mags on my iPhone too. I think as long as you have an iPad and buy books there you should at least be able to sync read them on your iPhone. The some should go for your Mac/PC too.

The next best thing would be that stanza is somehow able to sync with Books in iTunes
