I'm looking to ditch my old MacBook Pro for video editing and upgrade to the following 27" iMac:

  • 3.5GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz
  • 16GB 2400MHz DDR4
  • 1TB Fusion Drive
  • Radeon Pro 575 with 4GB video memory
  • Magic Mouse 2
  • Magic Keyboard - US English
I edit compressed video, 720x1280, for YouTube delivery. I assume this machine will be more than sufficient for the task, but thought I'd get some feedback. Thanks!

My suggestions:

- The 3.5 is the "midrange" model, right? That's a good choice. BUT...

- Get a "straight" SSD instead of the 1tb fusion drive. The 1tb drive has a 32gb flash portion and a 1tb HDD portion. The flash portion is too small, and will quickly slow down the Mac. A 512gb SSD (adds $300) would be a SUPERIOR choice. If you need more storage (for completed projects, etc.) just plug in a USB3 external drive.

- Get 8gb of RAM and add more yourself -if- you need it. (Try 8gb first and take the money you save here and put it towards the SSD).

Definitely do this. Unless you are getting a ridiculously good deal get the above configuration.
