will imac g4 hard drive work in imac g5?

I'm ordering an imac g5 with no hard drive. Will my imac g4's hard drive fit inside?

No. The iMac G4 uses a PATA HD and the iMac G5 uses a SATA HD that's in a slot too tight to accommodate an adapter.

Yes, any 3.5" SATA drive will fit and work.

A limited number of iMac G5 units intended for education did have Parallel ATA HDDs, but the OP's is probably not one of them.
