and by that I mean, will Apple ever come up with an accessory that would allow the iPad connect wirelessly to the Mini or Pro and act as the screen/keyboard/mouse for them? That way the Mini or Pro is placed in one place in the house and iPad can use their computing power as and when required?

VNC and other Remote Desktop apps already exist can and can do exactly this. I do this to manage my iMac server in the basement all the time.
I personally use JumpDesktop, but there’s lots of others.

So the iPad can use all the apps that one has in the Mini/pro/iMac? How come there's not more emphasis put on this feature? I check the Macrumors news feed quite regularly but I have never seen much talk about this feature.

It’s a Remote Desktop software like we know them from PCs for ages. All the pros and cons have been discussed. Just check out a couple of YouTube videos to see these solutions in action if you are not familiar with the technology yet.
