iPad mini 4 has been bought for a Christmas gift and I was wondering if the battery will last unopened? It will be a month's time since purchased when Christmas comes.

There will be some power, enough to turn it on and run it, though its anybody's guess to how much will be there.

Yes. The iPad Mini 4 should be off by default as should every apple product in its packaging and be turned on once the box is opened. Typically once turned on there's should be around 74% battery.

Yes but I have purchased it about 3 weeks ago and it won't receive its first charge until Christmas. But it should be ok right?

Would think so. Some sit on store shelves for a while before bought. Worse case scenario just have them plug it in while setting up, I doubt you will have to though.

I've bought apple devices that were assembled almost a year before purchase and they had enough battery power to go through the entire registration process and play around for an hour and some.

Yes, it will be fine. You're not the first person to buy such a device early as a gift, you know. Also, who knows how long a unit has been sitting on the shelf or in a warehouse before purchase even when the buyer takes it home and opens it right away? They're obviously going to design the things to have some shelf life. As long as it's not powered on inside the box right now (and obviously it shouldn't be) it will be good to go as soon as it's opened, and probably won't even need to be plugged in right away.

And even if it does need a charge right out of he box, there's no harm in using it while it charges, so it's not like the recipient will have to wait to enjoy their gift.

I got one last week. It had 90+ % charge when opened. Either ways, it will last a while before you have to charge it for the first time.
