I need to country unlock it but also would like to jail break it too. Would jailbreaking it automatically country unlock it too?

I could find many sources that shows how to jailbreak it using Windows but where can you find information on how to jailbreak it using a Mac?

Jailbreaking and unlocking are 2 different things.
One doesn't equal another. There is no software unlock available for your iOS version and there was no software unlock for over 4 years.

So would this not work for country unlock? https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/

Are you saying it’s impossible to country unlock this iPhone because of the fact that I upgraded it to 5.1.1?

You can try asking AT&T for an unlock from the link above.
If they agree then its factory unlocked for good. You don't need a JB or anything.
Besides that there is no software hack to unlock it.

However the unlock process requires restoring my iPhone which would update it to 7 which is not something I want, as it would slow down even more the already slowed down phone.

Nothing wrong with i4 on 7.1.2 and on the top of everything, you have jailbreak for life....

I've seen an i4 with 7 and it was so slow that I couldn't imagine using it.

    ----------

Is there any disadvantage to jailbreaking for life?
You can't unjailbreak a jailbroken iPhone?

Will a jailbroken iPhone with 7 be faster than unjailbroken iPhone with 7?

I believe it's no longer necessary to restore the phone as part of the unlock process.

They tell you to restore but you don't have to.
All you have to do is stick another sim in and it will activate fine once att puts the unlock through.

I guess you misunderstood .... I4 on 7.1.2 can always be jailbroaken, restored, jailbroaken again, restored.........

I got an email that says this:

You mean you don't need to follow that and just plug in a different SIM card? After reading the instructions, I thought the instructions saying 'ensure the original SIM card' meant that the key to unlocking is restoring while the original SIM card is still in place.

    Correct.
    Its all unneeded/unnecessary steps.
Pop in the sim, connect to wifi and it will activate and unlock. You're done in one minute instead of 2-3 hours wasted time to backup, restore, update restore from backup, sync your items back etc....

That's really nice. Can you also jailbreak without needing to restore your iPhone (hence making it update to iOS 7)?

When T-Mobile unlocked my 5S and 6+, all I had to do was insert the other carriers sim. For me it was an AT&T sim. The phone appeared to respring and then it asked me to enter my iCloud ID and password. Phone was instantly unlocked.

Yes, otherwise jaiobreaks wouldn't really work in a lot of cases.

I tried this but it don't work. I'm trying to use an international sim card. Does that make any difference? Maybe the link just unlocked the device but not country-unlocked it?

If it's really unlocked it should work with any gsm sim in the world.
